About Me
I entered the legal field in 1986 as a secretary to a solo real estate attorney in Springfield, Massachusetts. I then went on to
work for a small corporate bankrutpcy firm in El Paso, Texas and a solo practitioner in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Along the
way there were stints at the Federal Public Defender's Office for the District of New Mexico and the City of Las Cruces, New
Mexico City Attorney's Office, and a land title company in Colorado Springs. My real passion, though, is working with SOHO
attorneys with an entrepreneurial spirit--they are a special breed! I have twenty years of experience providing support
services to SOHO attorneys and I know that I can contribute directly to the success of your practice.
I have earned the Certified PLS (Professional Legal Secretary) designation from NALS--the Association for Legal
Professionals and successfully completed the Certified Legal Assistant exam from NALA (National Association of Legal
Assistants). In addition, I received the Real Estate Professional Assistant certification from the National Association of
Realtors®.
My computer skills are excellent--I use Microsoft Office in my practice, as I find that is the most common suite. However, I've
also kept up with WordPerfect and am comfortable using it as well.
In 2009 I worked with a core group of volunteers to pass the Military Spouse Residency Relief Act, which was signed into law
on November 11, 2009 and amended the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (50 U.S.C. App. 595) to provide military spouses
the ability to maintain a permanent state of residence while they move about the country and the world in support of their
servicemembers' careers. I currently serve as the Governmental Liaison on the Board of Directors of the Military Spouse
Business Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting other military spouses who run businesses while
living the mobile military lifestyle.
In my spare time, I enjoy visiting ballparks with my family. We generally root for the Colorado Rockies or the Boston Red
Sox--but if the Sox are playing against the Rockies, we're going to have to go with the Rockies! We've made several
cross-country road trips and have seen most of the country's major landmarks, including Mount Rushmore, the Grand
Canyon, and the St. Louis Arch. While we're here in Virginia, we plan to make a trip to visit our remaining unvisited
landmark, the Statue of Liberty.
